The Kihansi hydropower project is located 600 km south-west of Dar Es Salaam in Kilembero district close to Selous National Park. Run of river project with small reservoir for 24 hour peaking, installation prepared for 300 MW, initially installed capacity 180 MW, annual average 800 GWh. Unlined 600 m vertical shaft and 2,2 km pressure tunnel for 850 m head, A=30 m2.
Underground powerhouse with transformer gallery, access/cable and tailrace tunnels of 2,2 km each. Extensive socio-economic studies with programs following in health, education, water and land use, small scale entrepreneurship, environmental (flora/fauna/aquatic/) and pollution monitoring. Separate contract for infrastructure; 42 km road/6 MW diesel station/40 km 33 kV, permanent camp with water and sewage.
Scope of Work
Norplan on behalf of Multiconsult carried out all phases of the Kihansi HPP development. From feasibility study including ESIA, to preparation of tender document, detailed design and construction supervision.
